Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") carefully before using librestock.com (the "Site") operated by LibreStock ("we", "us", or "our"). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Overview

LibreStock is a free stock photography service that releases a curated collection of 10 exclusive photographs each month. All photographs published in our monthly collections are released under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) 1.0 Universal public domain dedication.

2. Photo License (CC0)

All photographs made available for download on the Site are dedicated to the public domain under the CC0 1.0 Universal license. This means:

  • You may copy, modify, and distribute the photos.
  • You may use the photos for commercial and non-commercial purposes.
  • No attribution is required (though appreciated).
  • No permission is needed.

However, the CC0 license applies only to the copyright of the photograph itself. It does not grant rights related to:

  • Trademarks or branding — Logos, brand names, or other trademarks visible in photos are not covered.
  • Identifiable persons — Photos featuring recognizable individuals do not imply consent for use in sensitive, defamatory, or endorsement contexts. Model releases may not be available.
  • Third-party content — Artwork, designs, or other copyrighted material depicted within a photo may still be protected.

3. Premium / Third-Party Content

The Site's search feature may display premium photo results from third-party providers including Getty Images and iStock. These photos are not CC0 licensed and are subject to their own licensing terms. Clicking on premium results will redirect you to the third-party provider's website.

We may earn affiliate commissions when you purchase content through these links. This does not affect the price you pay.

4. Use of the Site

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Use the Site in any way that violates applicable law or regulation.
  • Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the Site's infrastructure.
  • Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to bulk-download content or overload the server, beyond reasonable personal use.
  • Misrepresent LibreStock's CC0 photos as your own exclusive proprietary work for the purpose of reselling the photos themselves as stock photography.

5. Availability and Changes

Our monthly collections are available for a limited time. Each collection is typically replaced on the first day of the following month. We reserve the right to:

  • Modify, suspend, or discontinue the Site or any part of it at any time.
  • Change the number of photos in a collection.
  • Remove any content from the Site at our discretion.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the Site.

6. Intellectual Property

While the photographs in our collections are CC0 licensed, the Site itself — including its design, code, branding, logo, and written content — is the property of LibreStock and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the Site's design or branding without written permission.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Site and all content are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The Site will be error-free or uninterrupted.
  • Photos are free from third-party rights (see Section 2).
  • The Site will meet your specific requirements.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LibreStock shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Site or its content, including but not limited to claims related to copyright, trademark, privacy, or publicity rights in any downloaded photo.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LibreStock, its officers, directors, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Site or violation of these Terms.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time by posting the updated version on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
